CIDI Individual Honors

The CIDI would like to acknowledge individuals who have undertaken innovative and meaningful initiatives to express principals of humanitarianism by their action and by their assistance to the humanitarian aid process.

Each story presented below demonstrates a learning process, an awareness and a sensitivity of the true needs of those who are suffering.  There is an important role for the public and corporations to play in international humanitarian assistance, and the CIDI is committed to providing them with guidance in helping them make the best choices.

We hope that these stories will inspire others to respond to humanitarian needs around the world with compassion, creativity and insight.

When I finished the Bake Sale, I felt so wonderful knowing that we were "Children Helping Children."

It sure does continue to add up . . . it becomes more and more apparent why you discourage collecting physical supplies.

I found a great program sponsored by the Crop Walk folks [Church World Service], who are gathering money to have blankets manufactured by local women in Pakistan which are being given to refugees along with tents.  I am so excited!

And here is what I learned . . . it is hard to send things to Afghanistan if you are an individual.  It doesn't help their economy if I buy school supplies in the U.S. (for a higher cost) when it is available there for less.  It is easier to adopt an organization to support with money.  If you really search, you can get exactly what you want and still support Afghan education!
