Khris Nedam
program update

Congratulations to Khris Nedam, who was honored as the winner of the Exemplary Volunteer Service Award in the category of Service-Learning Educator at the Ninth Annual Governor's Service Award reception and dinner on April 29th in Michigan. The award honors and celebrates the outstanding efforts of Michigan citizens and organizations dedicated to serving their communities through service and volunteerism. Khris was nominated by Dr. Steve Anderson, who accompanied her to the reception and awards ceremony.

Khris Nedam, currently a third grade teacher at Amerman Elementary School, has worked with her classes at Meads Mill and at Amerman to coordinate the Afghan School project through a variety of service-learning activities and fundraising projects. As a result of their efforts, over $30,000 has been raised, a school and clinic has been built in Afghanistan and this year marked the first class of over 400 boys and girls who received education and food at the new Wardock School.

As Khris walked across the stage to receive her award from Governor Engler, there was enthusiastic cheering for Khris from Northville High School sophomores Jennifer Ecclestone and Carlin Peterson. Both young ladies have been involved with Khris in the Afghan School project since 1998.
